Gen Woo Back catalogue of Lookbooks 2019-2022
‘YK2 College’ story has a more sporty school girl feel with a nod to YK2 era. Our colour pallet including shades purple, black, lilacs, java and lime. Shapes took on a school girl feel with oversized school sweaters, pleated skorts, cropped trousers, retro style gym shorts and sporty polo tops.
‘Retro Psychedelia’ story is a more feminine collection that was print driven, mixing different gingham prints with a larger scale retro floral’s and checkerboards. The colour pallet mixed shades of bubble gum pinks, apricot with a stronger raspberry colour. Shapes ranged from cute shirring babydoll dresses and rompers to fun jumpsuits, shirring crop top's and high waisted crop leggings for our tweens and youth lines.
We produced a mini capsule of ‘Summer Basic’s’ for our younger girls. Which consisted of an assortment of brightly coloured tee’s with mini embroidered hearts, and contrast colour cycling shorts.
Our 'Daisy' nightwear capsule collection is made in a pretty hue of lilacs. We used natural lightweight cotton viscose to create a soft and breathable hand feel.
Our ‘mummy and me’ style nightwear capsule collection took on a big slumber party feel. This nightwear collection was inspired by the soft hand feel of bamboo fine knits, a fabric that is very popular here in Singapore. We used a natural cotton viscose to create a similar hand feel.
Spring Summer 21 saw our first adult "Youth" line for Gen Woo in Singapore. A mixture of Athleisure and trending #grunge all over Tik Tok inspired this pandemic story. The feel was less feminine and was more about comfort. We decided to create more oversized gender neutral shapes using a variety of oversized boxy t-shirts, paired with full length leggings or Bermuda shorts.
Complimentary to the youth line, the tween and girls Utility Sports collection also had a sporty Athleisure vibe. Our kids shapes offer a selection of classic easy to wear printed t-shirts, oversized boxy slogan t-shirts for the more fashionable tween, cropped fitted tank tops, stretchy 2 pieces that have slogan elasticated trims. Updated coloured leggings are sat with sweater t-shirts.Our second story for 2021 was titled 'Historical Romance' and a very feminine offering compared to our sporty capsule 'Utility sports'. A feel of escapism and wanderlust styled in woodland or English stately homes was our original vision for the capsule. Our ditsy nightwear capsule is an extension of our 'Historical Romance' story. We developed full coverage ditsy print in a pretty colour combination of dusty teals and shell pinks. Fabric was made of BSCI cotton and had a softening treatment. We created 2 shapes for girls and produced two babygrow's.This was our last capsule collection where we were 100% designing from factory deadstock. The story was put together towards the end of 2020 where we were all still navigating our way through the challenges of the pandemic. Collection was built around black and white floral ditsy's and city girl slogan tee's from our favourite fashion capitols. 🖤 New York 🖤 London 🖤 Milan 🖤 Paris 🖤Our second story for SS20 was built around a collection of printed floral deadstock. Prints that we felt could would work together in a bohemian ensemble. To achieve that bohemian aesthetic and classic boho-chic look we started on developing a long line floaty summer dress that would work with our large scale teared dropped shaped paisleys and hand drawn florals.Sweet inspiration came in the form of candy colours for our spring 20 capsule collection. A swatch of a pretty pink pinstripe's that included a conversational cherry print was the starting point for the collection. We were keen to do something quirky and fun that would sit in contrast to our boho girl story. We love nautical inspired fashion here at Gen Woo, its timeless and practical, everyone can wear a nautical look. When a selection of iconic blue and white stripe swatches arrived from Bangladesh we decided to add an additional capsule of Breton tops to our 2020 stories. We played with different styles of tie dye from snail spirals to 'holy' tie dye and even diagonal stripes. We added glitter slogans with positive messages to complete the designs. We had a nice variety of 100% cotton deadstock in white and ecru with tonal polka dot repeat prints. I kept the shapes easy and functional using basic pyjamas shapes and a pretty nightdress with pico edge trim. This was our first collection by Gen Woo, before we had an office, before we employed any staff. I was working from home and very much still finding my way around the constraints of using deadstock. Trying to get uniformity in a collection while maintaining your zero waste brand values is extremely hard. Most excess stock i had was under 80kg meaning you can only make a small quantity and one style with it.
